PIPSEA condemns Davao city night market bombings

The whole of PIPSEA membership strongly condemns, in the strongest possible term the cowardly, dastardly and senseless act of unimaginable proportions the bombing, resulting to the killings of at least fourteen (14) innocent and unsuspecting civilians with scores injured. They were simply enjoying and doing their thing at the bustling Davao City night market last night.

We call on this government to act swiftly and bring to justice the perpetrators of this savage and inhuman acts, inflicting harm to our peace loving people.

We are hoping that this incident will not be used and be taken advantaged by some quarters to create a scenario that extra constitutional actions are needed to address such problems. We are also hoping that this incident will not be like with those unsolved big crimes that were still unsolved and perpetrators are still scot-free denying justice to the victims for a very long time already. This is because of suspected cover ups in the investigation process and with some powerful unseen hands intervening.

We also call for calm and sobriety amidst the almost chaotic situation in our country, especially with the continued extra-judicial killings that we don't see an end in the immediate foreseeable future, a strange feeling this will become the norm of the justice system in our country.

We further call for vigilance and we should always be watching each others back between families, friends, neighbors and communities against the dark elements in our society who are out to sow fear and intimidation among us. We will do this to take back our communities and make it more safer and peaceful again for all of us, especially for our kids and for their future. We will not allow evil to prevail. Let us do our share the best way we can.

-Felix B. Cabuguas, Jr. National President
